The Advantages of Being Small

As Alpha Wealth enter into our Third Year and a sign that we are succeeding is one of clients referring people to us when we don’t ask them to, I ponder about whether it is better to be a small fish or a big one?

We are a Financial Services firm with five staff, even though people keep saying, which is a quote I really like, that “I went out on my own (with another fella)”. My team (as far as I’m concerned) are the most driven, focused, hard-working bunch on the planet. They work lots of hours, for reasonable pay but none of the flashy on-site gyms, foosball tables, sleep pods or gaming rooms that some companies offer. They do however, get direct and industry training and experience they would wait for years in other firms. Also they are as close to the real customer environment and definitely don’t get bored with their work. Working for a (relative) start-up isn’t easy but it’s not supposed to be.

The downside of being small is that it doesn’t necessarily mean less work. Whilst Financial services is evolving and the market is changing we don’t have a legacy of clients over the years which some of our competitors have. I still wouldn’t have it any other way!

I just finished a book written by a friend of mine, Flor McCarthy “The Solicitor’s Guide to Marketing and Growing a Business”. I found it really useful to my own firm. In the book, Flor provides really useful information for any business particularly with respect to the newer forms of marketing. I would recommend any Business Owner to read this book and given McCarthy & Co. have just won the prestigious Irish Law Awards 2015 for “Best Small Law Firm in Munster”, would suggest they know what they are talking about. It just shows that being small has its advantages and the growth we have experienced in the last two years has been nothing short of remarkable. Taking a quote from Flor’s book – “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” Michelangelo

So taking a leaf out of Flor’s book in using “Call to Actions”, if you want to experience a change from a firm that itself was shortlisted for Best Broker in Munster 2015, give us a call. We might surprise you but we certainly won’t disappoint you. 021-2061780 info@alphawealth.ie – Life/Protection/Pensions/Investments.
